Hi,

Perle was married to Israel Balmagia / Balmazia.

BALMAGIA = Motel BALMASZIA on the earlier ship into Ellis Island.

I offer you info. that I just found.
I find it exciting to see the Russian names as they were pronounced at immigration.  Or were these names Yiddish? Wish I could see anything with the original Russian or Yiddish names.
Maybe you can help.

Perle's children who traveled with her and husband Israel on Haverford ship to Phily are below.
I translate the following names on Immigration records as :

Perle Balmagia/Bell- mother,
Oscar/Chaskel,
Ethel/Ette,
Joe/Jassel,
Rebecca/Rivke,
Sylvia/Slatke,
Israel/Srul-father.
&
Isaak. Who is Isaak?

When did Taube/Tillie arrive?

Motel Balmaszia/Max  arrived nine months earlier than mother and family.
Motel-Max probably was the son, 17 years, who went ahead to Ellis Island, and arrived March 1912.

Motel's sponsor was Morris Russ at 338 Cooper Street, Atlanta Ga. (seen on Ship Manifest)

MOTEL BALMASZIE, see PASSENGER RECORD certificate below.
Arrival Date, March 27, 1912, Port of Departure: Rotterdam, Holland, the Nieuw Amsterdam, Line # 0024, Page 635

Tube / Tillie left Russia earlier, married to Morris Russ who sponsored Motel (and Abe Ismuzik/Mossman). Ethel Bell's later husband.
When did Tube arrive, to where and when and with whom?

How can we cousins access the correct Phily Immigration site for Haverford ship?
Cousins, can you do this?

Love, Joy

  1. Does anyone have a credible story about why and how the family left Russia?
