From Jewell St, New Haven, Conn.: Walk up through Independent Connecticut Lodge 1.
After a one minute walk you arrive at the second section of matzeivah/stones lined up perpendicular to first set you walked through.

The family graves are in what I have always referred to as "Westville" which is a part of New Haven at the NW edge of New Haven. Westville area is shown on maps and is less than a mile from where I lived on Goffe Terrace. Whaley Ave. runs directly from New Haven center right through Westville.
West Haven is SW of New Haven which is not where the cemetery is. - Paul Kleinwald

PEARL and ISRAEL BELL
Genealogist maven friends David Z. and Barbara K. translated the above Bell gravestones for me.
I include transliterations for better understandings especially of acronyms of Jewish gravestones in Hebrew.
I discovered also that the 5 letter acronym is from Avigayil's words to David in first book of Shmuel 25:29 :
... v'heiyta nephesh adoni tz'rura bitzror hacheiyim ait h' elokecha ...
"yet the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bond of life with the L-rd thy G‑d."
Here are multiple photos for better viewing to honor the first immigrants, Pearl and Israel Bell.
Enlarged inscription to easily read the Hebrew.

May the container hold all my virtual hugs for my beloved Grandma. I greatly loved her, z"l.
I never got to meet my grandfather. Abe ISMUZIK aka Mossman, age 23 years arrived in America on 4.12.1906 from Ozshe, Russia via Antwerp on ship Kroonland, Manifest Line #4. At Ellis Island his Ismuzik name was changed to Mossman.
Or was name ISMUJIK? as it maybe appears on the Ship manifest, with difficulty to read. See ship line 4.
See the Mossman post in this site.
Two years earlier arriving 2.24.1904 were his brother Benjamin Ismasik and wife Lifsehe/Lifsha Ismosik and their son, Theiwe/Fred Ismasik aka Mossmans. - Joy Krauthammer.

Marcel, z"l, (and Joy's future grave).
Pre-mature for me, but this "PILLOW BLOCK" (stone with only a last name) I ordered for Marcel Krauthammer, z"l, my husband and myself, is already in front of Marcel's grave. My grave is waiting next to his in the "companion estate" with bench and garden (Lily flowers, Cypress and Crepe Myrtle tree). My grave and matzeivah / flat stone monument also already paid for, is in Simi Valley, Mount Sinai's new Jewish site.
I believe we should all plan ahead when we can and save the burden from our children.
I hope friends & family dance and sing at my funeral, and paint blesSings on my plain wood coffin.
You can add something loving with me for my soul's journey. Thank you.
Love and blesSings, Joy Krauthammer

On a sad note, I, Joy gave birth to pre-mature twins, and with chesed, my Chabad rabbi buried them in Mount Carmel, East LA, CA plot E 26 #B. Here is the twins' matzeivah that Joy designed, and also the (double sunflower) unveiling cloth (cloth had belonged to Joy's mother) and with added heart-filled painted stones. It was an emotional and action struggle for Joy also because the cemetery at first refused to add hearts to the design.
Friends supported me at the matzeivah 'unveiling'.

ARIELLE, z"l

Highway 47, Belen, Valencia County, New Mexico,
Latitude 34.467379
Longitude 106.528016

Dolphe had been named for someone that our mom highly respected from her first marriage.
Arielle was elated to be given her new name, Arielle, under the chuppah for her marriage to her last husband.
Joy and Faye, sisters to beloved Arielle, traveled also to Alburquerque, New Mexico before Arielle died, examing every Jewish ABQ cemetery, and chose a new "green" burial ground with Jewish section, an hour south of ABQ.
'Green' was approved by Arielle while she was on hospice, which she entered on the day of her 76th birthday.
Joy hired traditional Chevra Kadisha with rabbi (whom Joy knew.)
Arielle looked beautiful in her traditional burial tachrichim/shroud. Her skin so fair.
With family present (along with owners of burial ground) Joy officiated at the funeral of beloved older sister, Arielle, daughter of Libby and adoptive step-father, Joe.
Faye and I had to carefully follow challenging cemetery rules for style and size of 'small natural' matzeivah.
In this far off cemetery, I deliberately left off gravestone a visible and desirable Mogen Dovid symbol with fear for vandalism (prevalent at that time around the world), but I designed the hand-made natural plain wood Kosher coffin with a Jewish star.
Family held matzeivah unveiling four months after Arielle's, z"l, death. (Grateful that Atlanta 1st cousin Larry H. was present and visiting Aunt Perle at Thanksgiving time for an unveiling.)
Cemetery's Jewish section is newly consecrated with the Jewish Federation of NM, and an area has been purchased in 2018 by a wonderful Albuquerque synagogue, Nahalat Shalom (where I said Kaddish for Arielle). (Aunt Perle had been a member of this shul and I knew the music director.)
La Puerta is bordered by the Manzano Mountains to the east. Trains cross that bridge which goes over Abo Canyon and the train tracks border La Puerta cemetery on the north side. (The BNSF train -Burilington Northern Santa Fe runs from LA to Fort Worth, TX and on to Chicago. It's their major line from east to west.) At least 30 trains per day pass through.
The Manzano Mountains are part of the National Forest. La Puerta borders 14,000 acres of conservation open space, preserved for generations to come.
The desert grasses will grow back in the spring. There are literally thousands of starlings, butterflies, and several golden eagles that will help the wind deposit grass seed.

Paternal family note:
Due to Anti-Semitism, Joseph Meltzer changed his name, when he finished his army duty, and was married to Libby Mossman, and they moved to New York. He felt for his employment and their housing, a name change was best.
Sadly, I never met my orthodox paternal grandparents, Hyman and Fannie Meltzer, z'l, who moved to LA, CA.
I, Joy, lived in NY. I took my first plane the year after my zaide died. Faye was named for our grandmother who died a week before Faye was born.

Joseph Nathan ben Fraydl v'Hyman, sadly, is buried in Palms Memorial Park, Sarasota, Florida.
Dad, Joe, was living in Sarasota after retirement from NY, and the Kleinwalds had bought property in this cemetery (where they are also buried)
so Dad did also, although Mom, Libby, z"l, is buried in New Jersey with an empty plot next to her, meant for Dad.

KRAUTHAMMER
Marcel, z"l, (and Joy's future grave).
Pre-mature for me, but this "PILLOW BLOCK" (stone with only a last name) I ordered for Marcel Krauthammer, z"l, my husband and myself, is already in front of Marcel's grave. My grave is waiting next to his in the "companion estate" with bench and garden (Lily flowers, Cypress and Crepe Myrtle tree). My grave and matzeivah / flat stone monument also already paid for, is in Simi Valley, Mount Sinai's new Jewish site.
I have also designed my own standing matzeivah as I did for Marcel (with his approval but upright stones are not allowed). Instead of traditonal standing matzeivahs as planned, ours are flat on the ground (where they are more easily being destroyed by environment. :( Many friends and Aviva, with me, have left stones for Marcel. (Gardeners blow them off stone.) There's even a bit of coral and seashell left with love. (The large green gemstone was stolen.)
I hope that when I am 120, someone puts a photo of my finished matzeivah here in this family site. (small 300 kb size or less)
I've added the sketch of mine now... see below.I believe we should all plan ahead when we can and save the burden from our children.
I hope friends & family dance and sing at my funeral, and paint blesSings on my plain wood coffin.
You can add something loving with me for my soul's journey. Thank you.
Love and blesSings, Joy Krauthammer

With a lot of love and full attention to detail, I designed Marcel's matzeivah and he approved it a few years before he died, although he approved it as a standing grave stone, and the way we bought the property contracted for a standing stone.
I asked his mother Thea if she wanted her name included in Hebrew and she agreed, fully knowing that it was not Jewishly traditional to include the mother's name.
Thea carried Marcel in her womb for his first 9 months, and mothered him, parenting him at least 50%, in Brazil, England, France, America and Canada. - Joy Krauthammer

For JOY in future - DESIGN - Must ADD BUBBIE or BUBBE
Here it is below, my own matzeivah / stone design for when I'm 120!
Follows design of husband, Marcel's, z"l grave stone.
Saves burden from daughter Aviva.
Additions and corrections needed.
Add more full "J" font in Joy.
Add BUBBE or "GRANDMA" for me before or after "sister" and with a dash - .
Bubbe will take up less space.
Add Timbrel from better colored sketch. see below.
Add heart into G*D instead of asterick or O, or keep *.
Add death date (when I'm '120').
Add Hebrew and English death date similar as in Marcel's.
(Maybe I should add that just so you can see what it will sort of look like.)
Reduce size of Hebrew Po"Nikbar before my Hebrew name.
(Read more in margin.)
